Word of warning: it is better to avoid certain neighborhoods, especially those in the suburbs, such as Scampia, Secondigliano, Poggioreale, San Giovanni a Teduccio or Ponticelli. While in the center, it is advisable to visit the Quartieri Spagnoli and Rione Sanità only during the day.

Centro Storico
The center of the city of Naples is located close to Montesanto and near the Decumani where it is possible to find San Gregorio Armeno, the historic via dei Tribunali and the very famous Spaccanapoli.

The ancient center is characterised by alleys and streets that intersect with some of the main streets such as the aforementioned Spaccanapoli, also known as Decumanus Inferiore, which is nothing more than a road that cuts the city in half for over a kilometre.

In this area, probably the most crowded and busiest in the whole city, it is possible to walk along the alleys of San Gregorio Armeno. In this sub-neighbourhood, local merchants and artisans display their handcrafted wonders. Nativity scenes, caricatures and people of note are all protagonists in this colorful and characteristic suburb.

Not far away are two other places that deserve a visit: the Chapel of Sansevero and the Complex of Santa Chiara. Finally, near the Centro Direzionale of Naples there is the world’s tallest mural, painted right onto one of the city’s symbolic skyscrapers.
Poco distante, invece, la Cappella di Sansevero e il Complesso di Santa Chiara sono altre realtà che meritano una visita. Infine, nei pressi del Centro Direzionale di Napoli è presente il Murales più alto mai realizzato al mondo e proprio su uno dei grattacieli simbolici della città.
The artist is the renowned Agoch Jorit, known for his street art and the markings left in the Neapolitan metropolitan area. Among his best known works are the face of Diego Armando Maradona on the public housing buildings in San Giovanni a Teduccio, the mural of San Gennaro a few steps from the Cathedral of Naples which is certainly the most emblematic, as well as the portrait of Ernesto Che Guevara, divided across the facades of two social housing blocks in San Giovanni a Teduccio.

In the central area there is also Garibaldi station in the square of the same name, Piazza Cavour and Piazza Dante. However, these places are not recommended, especially after sunset.
Nella zona del centro inoltre sorge anche la stazione Garibaldi nell’omonima Piazza, Piazza Cavour e Piazza Dante. Queste località tuttavia sono sconsigliate, soprattutto al calar del sole.
Pignasecca
The Pignasecca district is the shopping district and main social hub in the city centre. Here we are close to Via Toledo, also known as the shopping street. This area of Naples is within walking distance of Montesanto, Piazza Plebiscito and the Maschio Angioino, the perfect location for visiting the metropolis.
Il quartiere della Pignasecca è il centro dello shopping e delle attività del centro della città. Qui siamo vicini a Via Toledo, anche nota come via dello shopping. Chiaia e Mergellina
This is probably the most chic and elegant area in all of Naples with the renovated and entirely pedestrian Lungomare Caracciolo. But let’s not forget Mergellina and via dei Mille, where luxury boutiques, jewellers and fine tailors dot the entire area.

Straddling the seafront and the Vomero, Chiaia is the symbol of “upper class Naples”, that is, the wealthy and rich Naples with trendy clubs and more classy locales.

San Ferdinando
One of the most beautiful areas of Naples is the San Ferdinando district. Here it is possible to stroll along the well-known Lungomare Santa Lucia and reach the “queen of squares”: Piazza Plebiscito.

On the sea, we have the well-known Borgo Marinari, with the ancient Castel dell’Ovo which rises over the ancient islet of Megaride. The castle is the oldest in the city and its origins are still shrouded in an aura of mystery and legend.

Another castle, perhaps the most important of all, is the Maschio Angioino. The castle of medieval origin was built at the behest of Charles I of Anjou. From the moment of the construction of the new royal residence, the Maschio Angioino replaced the old Castel Capuano.

The San Fernando neighbourhood is also home to the renowned and extraordinary Real Teatro di San Carlo. More simply known as Teatro San Carlo, this is the oldest opera house in the world that is still in use. Founded in 1737, the opera house still hosts a wide variety of performances within its walls.

Furthermore, in the heart of the district it is possible to explore the Galleria Borbonica, a real pearl in the city’s underground. Another attraction of this kind is Napoli Sotterranea, a network of underground alleys with about 5,000 years of history. In fact, in the Neapolitan subsoil it is possible to admire parts of the historic Greco-Roman aqueduct as well as the anti-aircraft shelters used in the Second World War.
Inoltre, nel cuore del quartiere è possibile esplorare la Galleria Borbonica, una vera perla custodia nei sotterranei della città. Un’altra attrazione del genere è Napoli Sotterranea, un reticolato di viuzze sotterranee con circa 5000 anni di storia. Nel sottosuolo napoletano infatti è possibile ammirare parti dello storico acquedotto greco-romano così come i rifugi antiaerei utilizzati nella Seconda Guerra Mondiale.
Vomero
Vomero is an elevated neighbourhood that stands on a hill in the city. The area is among the most elegant together with Chiaia and Mergellina. Here it is possible to arrive by public transport or via a funicular.
Il Vomero è un quartiere elevato che sorge su una collina della città. La zona è tra le più eleganti in assoluto insieme a Chiaia e Mergellina. Qui è possibile arrivare con i trasporti pubblici o con una funicolare.
In this district, you can visit the Certosa di San Martino and the well-known Castel Sant’Elmo. Furthermore, the area is tidy and full of very popular clubs, shops and commercial activities. In particular, Piazza Vanvitelli and via Scarlatti are renowned, where it is pleasant to spend a few hours in good company while walking through one of the most fascinating areas of Naples.
Nel quartiere è possibile visitare la Certosa di San Martino e il noto Castel Sant’Elmo. Inoltre, l’area è curata e ricca di locali, negozi e attività commerciali molto frequentati. In particolare, è rinomata Piazza Vanvitelli e via Scarlatti dove è piacevole trascorrere delle ore in compagnia, attraversando una delle zone più affascinanti di Napoli.
One thing to remember, once you are here, is to admire the murals created by our old friend Agor Jorit who immortalised the face of Ilaria Cucchi, fiercely fighting to avenge the death of her brother, and that of Kobe Bryant, the US champion of the NBA.

The locality is also characterised by villas, sumptuous residences and tranquillity. The neighbourhood is a peaceful corner, perfect especially for families and those who want to experience the city in complete relaxation.
La località è anche caratterizzata da ville, residenze sontuose e tranquillità. Il quartiere offre un ottimo angolo di pace ottimo soprattutto per le famiglie e chi vuole vivere l’aria della città in pieno relax.
However, it is worth considering that, being a rather chic area, the cost of accommodation is higher than in other districts.
È da considerare tuttavia che essendo una zona piuttosto chic, il costo per soggiornare è più elevato rispetto ad altri quartieri.
The only flaw is the distance from the city center, which could be rather problematic if you only plan to stay a few days.

The suburbs of Naples are varied, offering art, history, culture and entertainment. You just need to know where to go and what to see. As for everything else, the city alone will do a good job of making your experience unique and unrepeatable.
