In the history of the Eurovision Song Contest, Italy has only won three times. The first victory came in 1964, with Gigliola Cinquetti’s song Non Ho L’Età, followed by Toto Cutugno’s Insieme: 1992 in 1990. Now, 31 years later, Italian rock band Måneskin has grabbed the title with the head-banging tune Zitti e Buoni.

Who is Måneskin?
Måneskin is an Italian rock band consisting of Damiano David (lead vocalist), Victoria De Angelis (bassist), Thomas Raggi (guitarist), and Ethan Torchio (drummer). The four members attended the same high school in Rome, and decided to form a band in 2016. Their first big success was winning Pulse, a local music contest for emerging bands.
The band came in second in the eleventh season of the Italian version of the talent show X Factor in 2017. They then went on to win the Sanremo Music Festival 2021 with Zitti e buoni, the same song that swept them to victory at the Eurovision Song Contest 2021.
Måneskin is actually the Danish word for “moonlight”. It was suggested by De Angelis, who is half Danish.
